Local artist and UNCC faculty member, Sharon Dowell, initiated a project to raise $1,210 for art supplies and a skateboard art project at West Mecklenburg High School. The project was funded through Project Art Aid’s Queen City Soup along with a matching grant from the Knight Foundation.
The artist will visit West Meck (7400 Tuckaseegee Road) on April 21 at 9 a.m. to begin working on the skateboard art project. Students will use their artistic talents to decorate skateboard decks that will be on display for an art show in Dowell’s uptown studio in May. At that time, she will auction off the skateboards to raise more funds for art supplies including paintbrushes, paint and gesso.
Dowell will volunteer her time with art teacher Megan Bechtold to guide students on the project. For more information, contact Stacy Sneed at [email protected].
